The soul of the festival - Why we do what we do
The critical issue for us is that self expression is one of the key
areas that is undervalued or overlooked within urban, regional and
remote areas. Even cities and media schools have many graduates making
films - which are in the most part films about someone else's amazing
life or a fantasy. Well what if that fantasy was their life, their
community, their world?
It is this that OTF aims to stimulate, develop and encourage - the
creation of works that deal with issues, personal or community, youth
or adult, disaffection or love, land/country or people or identity
e.t.c. and speak of it with a sense of humour.
In this way people are able to deal with the biggest issues in their
lives/communities in an effective, entertaining and self expressed
manner, which is then celebrated, communicated and heard by their
community!
Festival Content
The Festival is approximately 2 & 1/2 hours with intermission. OTF presents 14-16 films ranging anywhere
between 2 - 20 minutes. The evening is hosted by our MC who introduces the audience to the films in an
exciting, refreshing and entertaining manner. These are films which range in style and humour - slapstick,
black, tragic, satiric, cheeky, absurd and bizarre; as animation, clay mation, docos and live action
dramas etc. And includes our self generated material, eg; 32 page Programme with 40% comedy content,
opening speech by Festival Patron (eg. 2003 Prof. Allan Fels, 2001 Edward De Bono and 2000 Prince Leonard ),
much enjoyed irreverent OTF slide ads and more.
